1. What is a lncRNA?
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a class of non-protein-coding RNA transcripts exceeding 200 nucleotides in length. Unlike messenger RNAs (mRNAs), lncRNAs do not translate into proteins; instead, they fold into highly complex 3D structures that function as molecular scaffolds, epigenetic modifiers, and gene expression regulators in human cells.
2. About lncRNA2DB
lncRNA2DB is a specialized bioinformatics database developed and maintained by the Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) Centre at the University of Kalyani. It catalogues experimentally validated lncRNA–disease associations with full genomic coordinates, GC content, transcript lengths, binding partners, and PubMed publication provenance.
